Now I need your help. I don't ask for much, and when I do, I know my readers will respond. Here's the story. Lance Cpl. Colin Smith is a 2005 graduate of Avon Lake High School. He was hit by a sniper's bullet in the village of Karma in Iraq on October 30th 2006. The bullet penetrated his Kevlar helmet, entering the right upper side of his head and exiting the lower left side. He was not expected to survive. After surgury in Iraq, he was flown to Germany, and then on to Bethesda. After 3 weeks in ICU in a medically induced coma, he stabilized enough to be moved to the acute care unit. Colin suffered 50-60% loss of his both frontal lobes, and 30-40% loss of the left temporal lobe. He can now walk with light assist, and can talk, but only in basic terms. He can only use his right leg for the most basic stabilazation, and has no use of his right arm. He is not cognitively aware enough to be considered mentally competent. He lives at home with his dad, who I understand has quit his job to care for Colin full time. Bob, his dad, says each day brings new joy, and even if Colin never recovers beyond this point, they are so thankful. They feel they have been blessed with meeting so many people, and it has been an honor to see and have Colin serve the United States of America.
Amazing amazing story, and I am involved with Springside Raquet Club to help raise money for this family, as 100% of everything we raise will go directly to the family. Folks, this is what America is all about. I am going to match every dollar that my employees will donate, and I am going to give everyone that responds to this email with a $50 or more donation an 18 hole gift certificate for golf and cart. If you want to write a check, make it out to Springside Raquet Club, and put Colin Smith donation in your description and drop it off at the Chipp or Rosemont CC. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
